LIST OF UPLAND GAMEBIRD HUNTING PRESERVES

For starters, you can expect a warm welcome. You are a valued customer and your host will do everything to provide a safe and enjoyable hunt. Our members will obey all laws. Provide high quality birds in appearance and performance and offer excellent bird hunting areas of sufficient size, with challenging cover to assure fair chase hunts. Management and all employees will maintain professional appearance, attitude and will be easily identifiable to guests. The facility will be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Most preserves offer experienced guides with well-trained hunting dogs for your convenience, or you may use your own hunting dog. Hunting preserves vary depending on the facilities and services afforded.

In general, Michigan hunting preserves offer a wide variety of opportunities, hiking trails, bird watching, sporting clays, fishing, youth hunters safety classes, family events, dog training, business meeting areas, dining and camping just to name a few. You need to shop around for the preserve that fits your tastes and needs. Michigan preserves are preserving over 78,252 acres of open space and farmland as well as planting habitat for all wildlife to enjoy.

Michigan Hunting Preserves provide a variety of options to meet the needs of any hunter. Hunting Preserves are open to the public on a daily-fee or annual membership basis. Therefore the prices vary you can get an idea of prices by clicking onto the preserves that are highlighted to go to their individual web site. One thing is sure, a day hunting on a preserve is likely to cost no more than a so called “Free Hunt’ and will certainly take much less time and be more productive.

Seasons

The hunting season for released pheasants, bobwhite quail, Hungarian partridge, and mallard ducks on a hunting preserve is August 15 through April 30.  Exotic gamebirds, which include chukar partridge, coturnix quail, tennessee red quail, and fancy pheasants can be taken at any time on a hunting preserve.

Dog Training

The dog training season for pheasant, bobwhite quail, hungarian partridge, and mallard ducks on a hunting preserve is July 15 through April 30.  Dog may be trained on exotic game birds year-round.  Live ammunition may be used while training dogs.  Whenever live ammunition is used, a license is required.  Dogs being trained, or used in hunting, shall be confined to the preserve premises at all times. Several preserves offer dog training for upland gamebirds.  Or for the feeling when that young bird dog locks up on it's first rooster pheasant you will find it on a Michigan Hunting Preserve.

Hunting License Requirements

All persons hunting on a licensed preserve must have a current Michigan Small Game License or Game Bird Hunting Preserve License.  This requirement applies to all preseres whether open to the public or for private use only.  There are no daily bag limits for birds taken on a licensed game bird hunting preserve.  Both males and females of all species released on a preserve may be taken.

Many of our preserves work with their local hunters safety groups to provide hands on in the field training for our youth.  For that youngster dreaming of that first real bird hunt with his or her parent, preserves will provide the action not soon forgotten, with safety foremost in mind.
